Job Summary

We are seeking a Financial Analyst to join our team. The Financial Analyst plays a critical part in supporting the financial reporting process by ensuring compliance with audit requirements and facilitating the preparation and execution of external audits. This individual must demonstrate strong analytical skills and possess a solid understanding of financial reporting standards in accordance with GAAP. Additionally, the Financial Analyst will collaborate across various teams to meet audit and financial reporting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

      1. Full-cycle Accounting

      • Calculate and record a wide range of journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, inventory, payroll-related entries, and other adjustments.
      • Complete monthly account reconciliations such as payroll liabilities, prepaids, accounts receivables, as well as various other balance sheet accounts.
      • Demonstrate comprehensive expertise in inventory and manufacturing accounting, including cost tracking, valuation methodologies, work-in-progress (WIP), inventory reserves, obsolescence, and variance analysis.
      • Manage all inventory-related accounting functions and work closely with operations to develop, document, and improve inventory processes and internal controls.
      • Support and participate in the migration of inventory balances and processes into Promys, including data validation, reconciliation, and ongoing system integrity.
      • Create and maintain fixed assets listings for all company assets in compliance with company policies
      • and GAAP.
      • Prepare/assist with telecommunications reporting (monthly/yearly), bank margining report (monthly), and cash flow forecasting and budgeting (as required).
      • Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all journal entries and adjustments are completed in a timely manner.

      2. Audit/Review Engagement Preparation and Support

        • Collaborate with external auditors during annual and interim audits/review engagement, acting as the secondary point of contact for audit requests.
        • Prepare and organize detailed audit schedules, account continuity working papers, and supporting documentation to meet audit/review engagement standards.
        • Review internal controls and provide recommendations for improvements to align with audit/review engagement standards.
        • Support and coordinate all necessary documentation/correspondence related to CRA Audits.
        • Assist in identifying and addressing any potential audit findings or deficiencies.

        3. Financial Reporting

        • Assist/prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP/IFRS.
        • Assist with the preparation of proforma statements (income statement, balance sheet} and financial forecasts/budgets, as required.
        • Comparison of budget vs. actual and to the prior year for the same reporting period with explanations on significant variances.
        • Assist/prepare internal financial statements and provide to external accountants for tax preparation.
        • Knowledge of U.S. accounting and reporting requirements, including state-level regulations and compliance, is considered an asset.
        • Support potential U.S. acquisition opportunities, including an understanding of multi-state reporting considerations, inventory treatment, and cross-border accounting complexities is considered an asset.

        4. Collaboration and Communication

        • Work closely with accounting, operations, and other departments to gather necessary information for audits and financial reporting.
        • Assist in identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance data accuracy, efficiency, internal controls and streamline reporting.
        • Provide regular updates to management on audit progress and potential challenges.

        5. Compliance and Documentation

        • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of financial processes and policies to ensure compliance with audit standards.
        • Stay updated on changes to accounting and audit regulations and advise management on potential impacts.
        • Other duties as required.

        Qualifications

        • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
        • Actively working towards a CPA designation.
        • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial analyst role, preferably in a company subject to external audits.
        • Strong understanding of GAAP/IFRS, internal controls, and external audit processes.
        • Proficiency in MS Office 365.
        • Experience with ERP systems and QuickBooks is considered an asset.
        • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
        • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
